Payment terms
This policy covers how class fees, membership and extras are paid at JL Dance, what happens if a payment is late, and the notice we need for cancellations. We have written it to be clear and fair for everyone.
- per month for a 30 minute class
- £14.90
- per month for a 45 minute class
- £17.75
- per month for a 60 minute class
- £20.75
- when a dancer takes 4 or more classes
- 5% off
How monthly payments work
Your monthly fee stays the same all year round, and payments are collected automatically on the 14th of each month for the month ahead.
Paying for the month ahead means accounts are always 2 weeks in advance. Here is why: it keeps the school's income steady, which is what lets us plan classes, staffing and studio time reliably. If you decide to leave, you are welcome to attend until the end of the period you have paid for.
Holidays are already included
Classes run for 38 weeks per year, and your annual fee is based on those actual teaching weeks, divided into 12 equal monthly payments.
So when you pay in August, you are not paying for weeks we are closed: you are paying the same instalment of the same annual total, just spread evenly so there are no termly spikes and no holiday adjustments to work out.
Joining, leaving and membership
Joining or leaving mid-term is fine: we adjust your payments fairly to your start or end date. Just let us know your plans and we will sort out the details.
After your trial period we set up automatic payments, with your first payment adjusted to match your start date. There is also an annual membership fee of £24.00, which runs September to August and is pro-rated if you join mid-year.
How each activity is paid
Regular classes
Automatic monthly payment on the 14th.
Dance exams
Invoiced separately, with the due date on the invoice.
Private lessons and workshops
Booked and paid online at the time of booking.
Show costumes
Details and payment information are sent by email.
Competition entries
Solos and duets are paid with the entry form. Group performances are invoiced separately.
Extra classes and workshops should be booked in advance. Any unbooked attendance is charged afterwards, because bookings are how we plan safe class sizes and staffing.
If a payment is late
Late payments are handled the same way for every family, because that is the only fair way to do it:
- A £15.00 fee applies to payments more than 10 days late.
- Overdue accounts cannot book extras (competitions, workshops and similar) until settled.
- If a payment is 14 or more days overdue, classes pause until the account is current.
If something has gone wrong, or a payment is going to be difficult this month, please tell us before the 14th. Talking to us early is always the better option, and it is never awkward.
Cancellations and refunds
- notice to cancel a private lesson with a refund
- 72 hrs
- notice to cancel room hire with a refund
- 48 hrs
These windows exist because teachers and rooms are scheduled in advance, and notice gives the time a fair chance to be reused. For how private lesson cancellations work in practice, see our private lessons guide. If you need a refund in other circumstances, get in touch and we will talk it through.
Our agreement
By making payments to JL Dance Academy you are agreeing to these terms, and they are included in our invoices and communications so nobody is caught out. In short, what we ask of you: keep your payment details up to date, book extras in advance, and talk to us early if anything changes.
Questions about any of this?
